British expat’s smug weather updates leads to mass social media exclusion

Pictures such as this one, along with captions like “Snow? What snow?” have led to Ms Twinge being ostracised on social media by almost all of her UK friends

DUBAI: With much of the UK and Europe still mired in sub-zero temperatures, a UAE-based expat has found herself dramatically cast into the social media wilderness following a heavy series of smug, weather-based messages aimed at her friends and family back home.

Cosima Twinge, a 28-year-old British PR executive living in Dubai, has over the past week unleashed what has been described as a “hailstorm” of Facebook status updates and Tweets concerning the UAE’s current idyllic climes. Many have come complete with photos showing herself and her partner Simon posing in a variety of outdoor locations, often with captions such as “did anyone say snow?”

Citing universal exasperation at Twinge’s self-satisfied online smugness, an astonishing 95 per cent of her friends have opted to disconnect from her on various social media platforms forthwith.

“It was bad enough at Christmas, when [Twinge], like, posted at least 15 pictures of her and Simon swigging champagne in the sunshine while wearing comedy reindeer antlers in just an hour,” said Lucinda Duff, a former BFF of Twinge.

“But since the weather started causing chaos, we’ve all been inundated with posts from her about how she’s thinking of us in the freezing UK, each one accompanied by photos of herself in beachwear enjoying cocktails on the roof of yet another hotel. It’s just gone too far.”
