Condolences flood in for expat after brunch plans ruined

All-you-can-eat-and-drink engagement cancelled following death of King Abdullah

ABU DHABI, UAE: Condolences have flooded in for public relations specialist Steve Morton after his Friday brunch arrangements were abandoned following the death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

“Dude, that’s a serious bummer!” wrote construction manager Tommy Skelton on Morton’s Facebook wall. “I’m sorry for you Stevo, it looks like it could have been a classic.”

The Dhs300 all-you-can-eat brunch at the Ramada Falcon Plaza Resort, with Dhs 150 extra for unlimited house beverages, was cancelled at the last minute as a mark of respect for the reformist and much loved King Abdullah.

“Like, no way!” commented Morton’s girlfriend, Samantha, on hearing the tragic announcement that brunch had been shut down.

“It’s like tragic. I was waiting all week for the Alaskan salmon and eggs benedict, Beef Wellington and Black Forest gateau and to then get slowly trollied on unlimited house beverages until I fall over. What a downer.”

After writing: “Hey Guys, guess what? Brunch is totally off at the Falcon. Seriously!!”, Morton sat in silence for a few moments, remembering the great contribution the brunches have had to maintaining life in the Middle East – including the occasion he danced shirtless on the table, and the time Samantha fell asleep in the women’s restroom.

“No getting blotto for me this weekend,” he later wrote on Twitter.

Condolences were led by his best friend, Mike “Crazy Horse” Jones, who on Morton’s Facebook page commented: “We’re totally going to double up on madness next weekend, hang in there dude!”

Morton’s family have asked for unlimited house beverages in lieu of flowers.
