Dubai journo celebrates social media success

Business reporter first to have story posted across all forms of social news

Keralan business reporter Barry Johnson can't understand why his story was such a hit online

DUBAI: A journalist was celebrating last night after his news story became the first in the region to be successfully distributed across all forms of social media.

Barry Johnson, a Keralan business reporter working for the Dubai-based Gulf Now newspaper, wrote an article three days ago about air stewardess who managed to avoid losing her license after passing a language test.

Since then, the article has been posted on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Mashable, Reddit, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, livejournal, Delicious, LinkedIn, Fark, Slashdot and numerous others. At 5.43pm yesterday, the story made history when it was first posted on Pinterest.

“It feels amazing,” said a somewhat lubricated Johnson yesterday from one of Dubai Media City’s lively drinking establishments.

“To be honest, it’s an incredibly boring story, so I don’t really know why it generated such interest,” he said, adding that the headline ‘Air Hostess Skirts Strip After Oral’ might have had something to do with it.

“The suggestive photo could have helped too.”
