Dubai man wins record for fastest beep at green light

Traffic lights very similar to the ones record-breaker Mr Walid Ali would have used. Yesterday.

DUBAI: A Dubai resident was in tears of joy yesterday after claiming his second Guinness World Record in just three years.

Walid Ali, a 36-year-old Emirati, snatched the record for ‘Quickest Car Horn Beep at a Green Light,’ at approximately 7.42pm last night, honking a mere 0.00002 seconds after the traffic light had changed from red to green at a crossroads on Al Wasl road. Unbeknownst to Ali, Guinness World Record examiners were taking timings at the corner and quickly informed him of the news.

“It was just instinct,” he tearfully told The Pan-Arabia Enquirer, still emotional from the win. “I saw the light and just pressed the horn. It’s what anyone would have done.”

Despite being jubilant at his new accolade, it isn’t the first time Ali has been handed a Guinness World Record. In 2009, he was given the prize for the ‘Most Totally Impractical Motor’ after Guinness officials found that he had been driving around in an eight-wheel 10-litre pick-up truck while carrying just a small bottle of water in the back.

By any chance could this be the same man who is training Hot Rod Habibis nationwide to totally ignore red lights?

The best approach if you are really In It For The Win is to make the winning beep from pole position. This really cements the defeat of the 2nd through 4th rows.

Not so sure if it’s what anyone would have done. I usually wait 5 seconds before beeping my horn.

This is obvious a spoof ! Everyone knows that as soon as a Traffic Light turns from Red to Green in Dubai, there is a built in horn in the Traffic Light that beeps a sound just like a car horn. Come on, no-one really believes that the drivers waiting at the lights beep their horns here….do they ??

May I take this opportunity to apologise to my fellow Dubai citizens. A light went green yesterday in Barsha and I neglected to beep my horn at all!! Am deeply sorry, I will try to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

It was only a matter of time until this record was broken, again.

I was shocked yesterday when I saw a driver using indicators to cut across 5 lanes of traffic just approaching a junction. Surely the indicator is an optional extra when you buy a car and not fitted as standard. Can anyone confirm this?

No, indicators are a standard feature on cars. They’re a bit like training wheels on a push-bike, they’re only for use by drivers who lack confidence, to signal to everyone else on the road that they’re anxious. Good drivers simply make the turn or manoeuvre and don’t need to warn the car behind them that they’re about to do a sudden hairpin.

In athletics terms it’s called a flyer. I just hope the Guinness person did a urine test afterwards as he could have had some “help” and as far as I’ve read somewhere that the use of substances increasing honking reflexes is also illegal.
