Dubai’s Burj Al Arab celebrates 15th anniversary by being bulldozed and replaced with identical replica

Iconic structure rebuilt brick-for-brick to commemorate birthday

To commemorate the 15th birthday of Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab, which first opened its doors in December 1999, the world-famous 7-star hotel was this morning leveled to the ground and replaced with an exact replica.

“What better way to celebrate the birthday of our most famous landmark than bringing the bulldozers in, knocking it down and then rebuilding it brick for brick,” said project manager Abdulhamid Al-Qumra.

Plans are already in place to do the same for the Burj Khalifa’s 10th anniversary in 2020.
