Egypt approves new law banning unsanctioned anti-government thoughts

Anyone wishing to consider dissenting contemplations will be required to seek prior permission

The pro-democracy movement in Egypt was dealt another blow yesterday when Egyptian parliament approved a new law banning all forms of anti-government thoughts that haven’t been approved by the police.

Under the new law, anyone wishing to think dissenting thoughts must seek seven different permissions for the planned contemplations. Activists will have to go to court to appeal any rejected applications.

Human rights groups have already denounced the law, a move Egyptian police claim immediately contravenes its terms.
