Egypt military head Sisi “over the moon” at 98.1% ‘yes’ vote

CAIRO: Egypt’s military chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said he is “absolutely delighted” with the results of this week’s referendum, which saw 98.1% of the voters choose to back a new constitution.

“I honestly never expected to see these sorts of figures. I’m over the moon,” an excited Sisi said in a broadcast relayed on every TV station. “It just goes to show that Egyptians are truly ready for democratic change, especially if you send a few hundred thousand police and army officers onto the streets to stop anyone who undemocratically wants to vote the other way.”
