Egyptian company launches world’s first low-fat date

CAIRO: One of Egypt’s biggest date manufacturers has launched what it claims is the world’s first low-fat date. According to It’s A Date, which has farms around the Nile Valley region, its new Date-Lo contains 85 per cent less fat than usual varieties of the dried fruit.

“It’s widely known that your average date contains about as much saturated fat as a KFC family bucket, and is one of the biggest contributing factors to the dramatic rise in obesity around the GCC,” said managing director Clive O’Hanrahan, speaking to The Pan-Arabia Enquirer via Facebook Chat. “Our Date-Lo is going to be the only choice for people looking to break their fast while maintaining a healthy, low-fat diet.”
