Saudi Arabian reforms took a knock this morning after the country’s first female driver crashed her car just hours after the driving ban was lifted after admitting to getting distracted by an advert for kitchens.
“Everything was going so well and I was driving with absolute confidence,” said Maryam Ahmad, 35. “But then I saw this advert for a really nice looking kitchen and suddenly started thinking about how I’d really love a new oven to prepare food for all my family, then my mind wandered to what we should have for dinner tonight, and then to some of the other household chores I still have to complete today while my husband is out earning money, and then to a new TV show I’ve been watching that ended on a real cliffhanger yesterday, and then to a new dress I saw recently in the mall and whether or not I’d have to lose weight to fit into it.”
Added Ahmed: “The next thing I knew, I’d swerved off the road and crashed into a lamppost. Maybe they were right all along!”
