Middle East Twitterati come together to help locate lost plane

With Malaysia Airways flight MH370 still missing after almost two weeks, the Middle East’s Twitter community has stepped up to the challenge by offering its own insight into the plane’s whereabouts.

“How can an aircraft just disappear like that? I mean, it’s hardly small!!” said @MadAboutCats12, a Doha-based hair and makeup technician, echoing a sentiment shared by many from the region on the social media platform.

“If we’ve got the technology to find an address jus by typing a postcode into Google surely we can find a whole plane,” added @ChezzyGirl49, a pet psychologist in Dubai.

But energy consultant @MikeInMuscat had a more sinister suggestion regarding the fate of the Boeing 777 along with its 227 passengers and 12 crew members.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this was something to do with Ukraine. Or Iran. Yeah, it’s probably Iran,” he posted in a tweet that at the time of going to press had been favourited twice.

How could it possibly be Iran? They’re too far away to have shot it down. And remember the last country to “unintentionally” shoot down a passenger jet was the USA.

You’re right. It must have been Venezuela then.

How many navy ships does Venezuela have in the Indian Ocean?

No ships of there own in the IO – they work co-operatively with the Bolivian Navy in this part of the world.
