Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu this morning vowed that the heavy-handed response he has announced following the murder of five Israelis in Jerusalem would not interfere with the country’s planned winter bombing campaign of Gaza.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that whatever military action we undertake to avenge the deadly attack earlier in the week will in no way overlap with our annual Christmas invasion,” he told reporters on Wednesday, adding that however heavy the hand is used “won’t impact our ability to use a heavier hand later on.”
With Operation: Belly of the Beast already penciled in for late December, suspicions had been raised among right-wing Israelis when plans for Operation: Fire Down Below and Operation: Marked for Death were leaked to Haaretz. Many feared that the new operations could see the winter activity scaled back or even pushed into 2015, where it could possibly conflict with the summer’s Operation: Urban Justice.
The news comes amid reports that the Israeli army have for years been using old Steve Seagal movies for campaign titles.
