New ‘Fifty Shades’ book to be told from viewpoint of hardline Saudi cleric reading first three books

Fundamentalist addition to bestselling series will be published later this month

In an announcement that has taken the publishing world by surprise, Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James has revealed a brand new addition to her steamy bestselling book series about S&M fan Christian Grey and his love interest Anastasia Steele.

Whereas the initial trilogy was told through the eyes of Steele, the new book – to be published later this month – is set to follow the story from the viewpoint of a radical Islamic cleric in Saudi Arabia reading the first three books.

“Fifty Shades of Grey is a love story that has enthralled readers in a way that few books have,” said Vintage Books publisher and James’ editor Anne Messite.

“When Erika mentioned to me that she wanted to re-open the story, this time from the viewpoint of a fundamentalist hardliner exploring her X-rated books for the first time, I was incredibly excited for her and for her readers. The book has all the compelling attributes of its predecessors, only with slightly more mentions of fatwas and global jihad, and I can’t wait for fans to experience the work again from a perspective they have long desired.”
