Petra to be renamed ‘That Place From Indiana Jones’
AMMAN: The Jordanian Tourism Authority has announced that the famed archaeological city of Petra will be henceforth named That Place From Indiana Jones.
The news came following the completion of a survey in conjunction with travel website TripAdvisor, in which participants were asked to choose from a selection of names with which they associated the city.
“While to Jordanians, our beloved historical town will always be Petra, as it was to the ancient Nabataeans who made it their capital in the 6th century BC, it seems to the rest of the world it is more commonly referred to as ‘That Place From Indiana Jones’,” said tourism minister Ahmed Amwaj-Rotana at a press conference.

How the new map of Jordan will look
“And, in the quest to attract more visitors to the country, we must respect the needs and opinions of the international community.”
The news is likely to enrage many Jordanians, who only last week were up in arms following a story that glamour model Jordan was planning to sue the country over naming rights.
However, Amwaj-Rotana revealed that the new name could have been somewhat different.
“The actual results showed that the name ‘That Place From Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, You Know, The One With The Old Dude And The Magic Cup,’ came out on top,” he said.
“But due to financial considerations for local hotels who will need to change their signs, we decided to come to a middle ground.”

Oh my..
If I were Jordanese I would be hella mad right now!!!
They won’t be called ‘Jordanese’ for long, if that Katie Price has her wicked way.
But then Micheal Jordan will sue her LOL!!
They were never called Jordanese, they’re called Jordanian…
It will always be “That place from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger” to me.
Perhaps Burj Khalifa could be renamed ‘MI3 Tower’ too?
Oh Amwaj Rotana is really asking for it!
When the ancient Nabataeans made Peta their capital in the 6th century BC, did they know it was the 6th Century BC?
Yes. We read it somewhere.
I am surprised Wadi Rum wasn’t also renamed “That place from Lawrence of Arabia” or is that too dated a reference?
