Qatar telephone operator rebranded as Ooredoo after “intern sat on keyboard”

Qtel’s new name a result of unfortunate email mistake, claim sources

“By the time the logo came back from the designers it was just too late to change anything.”

DOHA: Qatar’s state-owned telephone operator Qtel yesterday rebranded itself as ‘Ooredoo’, but according to sources in Doha, the name only came about after an intern in the marketing team accidentally sat on the keyboard.

“The mistake was made shortly before the email was sent off to the designers,” said the source. “Nobody noticed until the new logo came back and, by that time, it was just too late to change anything.”

The source also confirmed that executives at Ooredoo were hoping that “nobody noticed the name was completely ridiculous and just went along with it”.

Some marketing exec has probably been paid a fortune to come up with this shite, and at the end of the day, people will still call it QTel!

Some of the major re-branding and new logo unveiling exercises in Qatar are indeed a rip off by the design/marketing companies. Look at the QNB logo and Royal Bank of Scotland logos. Very little difference. For QNB the arrow is full and in different colours, that’t it. Same way when CBQ became Commercialbank the design company almost copied CommonwealthBank name style, the only difference is they left the ‘b’ in lower case. I’m sure these companies would have made millions.

This is a completely made up story, didn’t qtel sign any logo proof before the press release? The designers sent it directly to the launch stage perhaps????!!!!!!
