Saudi Arabia Celebrates Cannes Film Festival Debut With Live Stoning on Red Carpet

Film stars joined in as the country enjoyed its first visit to the prestigious festival

Saudi Arabia celebrated the country’s historic first ever appearance at the Cannes Film Festival by holding a live stoning on the red carpet in front of the world’s press.

The impromptu event at the foot of the Palais des Festivals even drew in several A-listers, including competition jury head Cate Blanchett, who lobbed several rocks at a selection of men and women charged with adultery and shipped over especially.

“Cannes is known for the crazy stunts and pranks people pull to generate a bit of buzz and headlines, but stoning to death a load of people really ups the ante,” laughed one Hollywood producer. “It’s just a good job the carpet is red!”
