Saudi Arabia recalls all Saudi maids from Nepal

Kingdom counters Nepalese ban with own, as yet ineffectual, ruling

A maid, yesterday

RIYADH: Following Nepal’s recent banning of female domestic workers travelling to Saudi Arabia after reports of mistreatment and other abuses, Saudi Arabia has decided to retaliate with its own enforcement, banning Saudi maids from working in Nepal.

While the ruling was yet to evoke any change, Saudi officials were adamant that the message to Nepal was loud and clear.

“If Nepal doesn’t want to clean our homes, we don’t want to clean theirs,” one said, yesterday.

I love the PanArabia Enquirer and think that in terms of satirical quality it is right up there with the Uk’s Daily Mash.

But, I did not like this. The abuse of maids throughout the region is just too widespread and just too awful.

I see where you are coming from, but satire is only there to expose the pathetic joke that is the truth. How many saudi women would travel to nepal to find work, and if they did, how would they be treated?

It may have taken you nearly a year but I for one think it was worth waiting for.
