Saudi votes for rapper Coolio to star on new flag

RIYADH: A new survey has revealed that 85 per cent of Saudi citizens wish to see the rapper Coolio on their new flag design.

The shock result saw the Gangsta’s Paradise star beat off stiff competition from more traditional Saudi iconography, including a camel, a sword similar to the one on the nation’s current flag, and ‘a big old fist’.

“It’s baffling,” said a spokesman from FlagSource, the company commissioned to carry out the survey. “We were fairly sure that the camel would be a runaway favourite. But the nation has spoken, and it seems that their chosen figurehead is an American Grammy Award-winning musician, rapper, actor and record producer.”

While the Saudi government refused to be drawn on whether the result would be acted on, a spokesman commented: “Coolio certainly does have a large and dedicated fanbase in Saudi Arabia.”

“In fact, there was a fan convention in Riyadh the day they took that survey,” he added.
