Life of Pi star mauls five at opening of Dubai International Film FestivalDUBAI: There were embarrassed blushes at the Dubai International Film Festival last night after the star of the opening film unexpectedly mauled five guests on the red carpet.
The 450-pound Bengal tiger, who plays the character Richard Parker in Ang Lee’s 3D adaptation of Life of Pi, reportedly became incensed by a camera flash while posing for photographers at the Madinat Jumeirah, pouncing on a group of festival attendees stood nearby.
In the ensuing melee, three Egyptian TV stars, a Lebanese documentary maker and Morgan Freeman were savaged before the tiger’s handlers stepped in to calm the situation. The five remain in a critical state.
“To be honest, we just assumed he’d been given the necessary media training to deal with such events,” said one of the organisers, before quipping, “it’s just a good job the carpet is red!”
