The Tommy FSA collection combines practical, combat-friendly comfort with Hilfiger’s trademark ‘preppy with a twist’ look
When the Free Syrian Army next takes to the front line to face the troops of president Bashar Assad, they could be doing so wearing the latest high-fashion threads of one of the world’s top brands.
Following a deal signed this morning, US clothing icon Tommy Hilfiger has agreed to kit out the main Syrian opposition forces with an exclusive range of outfits.
“These people are embracing the all-American value of democracy. It’s our privilege to ensure that they do so in a range of fresh, All-American styles.” said Tommy Hilfiger.
“We’ve had the Arab spring – now get ready for Arab Fall/Winter!” he added.
The capsule collection, entitled ‘Tommy FSA’, combines practical, combat-friendly comfort with Hilfiger’s trademark ‘preppy with a twist’ look.
Highlights include a tweed flak jacket with pop colour detailing, three-quarter length cargo pants with a special ‘bullet pocket’, and a cashmere V-neck emblazoned with the FSA logo and Hilfiger flag trim.
The collection is to be promoted with a new campaign shot on the streets of war-torn Aleppo. It follows the adventures of a group of young, artistic freedom fighters, as they enjoy a stylish open-air picnic and discuss the imminent overthrow of the Assad regime.
However, concerns have been raised among the FSA that the classic stateside designs may prove impractical in warfare. “How are we supposed to fire rifles when we’ve all got jumpers tied round our shoulders?” complained an FSA representative.
