UAE to hold world’s most expensive Ice Bucket Challenge

Abu Dhabi hotel organises all-Champagne version of popular charity event

After a week in which celebrities, politicians and regular Joes the world over have been videoed while buckets of freezing cold water are tipped over them, a hotel in the UAE is now planning to takes things in a more extravagant direction with what it describes as the “ultimate 5-star Ice Bucket Challenge”.

Abu Dhabi’s International Millennium Plaza Resort & Spa will this weekend host the world’s first all-Champagne version of the viral charity event, with four gallons of vintage Moet et Chandon poured from a giant bucket lined with exquisite Swarovski crystals.

“The UAE has always prided itself of being at the forefront of luxury, so it seemed only right that the world’s most expensive, most glamorous Ice Bucket Challenge should take place here,” said event organiser Dina Verdi. “And obviously it’ll help raise loads of awareness for Africa.”

They actually can still use water, and have it be as expensive: http://www.therichest.com/expensive-lifestyle/entertainment/the-top-10-most-exotic-and-expensive-bottled-waters-in-the-world/

By the way, nice final line.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the campaign, please do not take it to this extreme. What would droping champagne do? The only reason people drop ice cold water is because the coldness of the ice and water would replicate the feeling an ALS patient feel ( stiffness and coldness in their muscles) the only thing this is just a waste of money and nothing but a PR stunt and an advertisment for the spa. Please respect the sanctaty of the patients and instead of wasting all that money on the champagne and swarovski bucket, donate the money.

Very well said. This is sheer waste of money and cheap publicity. Please donate the funds to millions of orphans and homeless in the world. God will blessyou for wise deeds!

It’s the punchline of the joke, Ms Speechless. Yes, it’s a joke (satire for those who don’t need to be told).

Great!!! Except the ice bucket challenge is not intended to raise awareness for Africa (still a great cause) but rather ALS you muppets

Raise loads of awareness for Africa?! I thought it’s to raise awareness of ALS disease.

      August 25, 2014 at 1:11 pm

Yes, but what you didn’t know is that ALS disease is short for African Loopsy Symptom, so this proves the PanArabian Enquirer staff reports correctly and diligently.

Am I expecting too much to assume everyone knows this is a humorous page and not an actual event!

Anyone with ants in their pants about to comment, please look at the ads at the top of the page, read some other articles and give yourself a slap. Peace x

      Basically… Yes.

or you could just donate that money…… seriously… spend all that money to waste champagne and contribute to nothing (i mean it’s viral ALREADY, what more “awareness” could you possibly spread) when you could just donate it and actually do what we were meant to in the 1st place and actually help people.

This is ridiculous. An ice bucket challenge is a way to not pay the donation to the ALS organization. But a whole country is doing the ice bucket challenege in this ridiculously expensive way and not putting a donation?

This is pathetic. A show for shows sake. Another guiness world record try. Get off your high and mighty horse UAE. this is a serious issue that causes death and you don’t need to decorate it with swaroski and expensive champagne. Show some respect.

When you continually point out to posters that ‘this is satire’, you are effectively saying :

“i only have a marginal grasp on the subtelties of humour and wit, and will not cease until i have policed the shit out of this site. It is imperative that the humour is enjoyed in accordance with the rules”

    just sayin’

Are you F-ing KIDDING ME???? Raise money for Africa, event coordinator ??? You are seriously the dumbest event coordinator I’ve ever heard of. THIS CHALLENGE IS NOT A SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE and UAE doesn’t have to be the best at dumping water on their heads for no apparent reason as event coordinator clearly is showing everyone. Why don’t you google ALS you ignorant materialistic “event coordinator” and see what the hell these people are dumping water for ! !!!!

I hope that the participants AT LEAST get a full spa treatment afterwards to compensate for the hardship of being sprinkled in champagne. Also, I don’t like Moet, can I replace it with Crystal? There must be a champagne menu for this right?

If there are still people reading this who believe it is a genuine article, I suggest you take the following steps.

    1. Turn off your PC/Mac/Tablet/Smartphone
    2. Put it back in the box it came in
    3. Take it back to the store you bought it from
    4. Explain to the guy in the store that you are too stupid to own a computer
    5. Go to a book store
    6. Buy a dictionary
    7. Look up the definition of the word “Satire”
