Woman uses giving maid day off as example of philanthropic nature

DOHA: An expat living in Qatar this morning used the recent decision to award her Filipino housemaid a short break as a genuine example of her own charitable personality.

“You know, you’ve just got to do your bit when you can, haven’t you?” the Doha-based American woman was overheard telling friends over lunch in a café.

“I mean, only the other day I noticed that Gloria had been up all night with food poisoning, so said she could take the day off so long as she caught up with the cleaning schedule the next morning.”

Wrong. She should have been deported and her salary retained for faking sickness.

Quite right! Some of these maids demand upwards of $8 USD per day!
To be allowing one’s staff some additional time off is quite a significant sacrifice, both financially and emotionally.
THis woman is truly a legend.
We were discussing her only yesterday over a quinoa and quails egg salad at the Archive in Safa Park, safe in the knowledge that our maids were out of earshot looking after our children.
I just dont know where the time goes!
